The Effects of COVID 19 on Outdoor Spaces and Site Design
This session is a discussion of how the shutdowns associated with COVID-19 have affected the use of outdoor spaces and how the pandemic may change landscape architecture in the future. The presentation begins with an overview of the response from the onset through the careful reopening of some services and spaces. The discussion continues with examples of how existing outdoor spaces at schools, retail stores, restaurants, offices, parks, and public gathering areas are being repurposed to allow social distancing. The presentation concludes with thoughts on long-term changes to the design of outdoor spaces, transporation planning, and the integration architectural space planning and landscape architecture.
