Presentation by Nora Wendel, Associate Professor of Architecture UNM SA+P, The Farnsworth House (Mies van der Rohe, Plano, Illinois, 1951) is currently presenting an exhibition within its interior, Edith Farnsworth Reconsidered. This new installation interprets for the interior as Dr. Edith Farnsworth would have occupied this house in the early 1950s, and explores the life and legacy of the fascinating client. Join exhibition co-organizer Nora Wendl for a webinar in which she contextualizes the house within the life and ambitions of Dr. Farnsworth. This talk will describe Farnsworth’s desire for the house, her choice to hire Mies, her relationship to modernism and design, and the role that gender has played in framing historical interpretations of this house.
