10.14.26 Concrete Masonry Manufacturing and Performance Facility Tour (2 HSW Pending Approval)
Wed, Oct 14
|Albuquerque
This Utility Block facility tour examines how concrete masonry units are manufactured and how raw materials, aggregate selection, mix design, molding, curing, and quality-control procedures affect the performance of completed masonry assemblies.

Time & Location
Oct 14, 2026, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Albuquerque, 7110 2nd St NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107, USA
About the Event
This Utility Block facility tour examines how concrete masonry units are manufactured and how raw materials, aggregate selection, mix design, molding, curing, and quality-control procedures affect the performance of completed masonry assemblies. Participants will observe the manufacturing process and evaluate how CMU properties influence structural capacity, fire resistance, moisture management, thermal performance, durability, and occupant safety. The program will also address material selection, applicable standards, and detailing considerations architects can use to reduce premature deterioration and support safe, resilient, and code-compliant buildings. (2 HSW Pending Approval)
Learning Objectives
Evaluate how aggregate type, mix design, unit density, and manufacturing tolerances affect the weight, strength, fire resistance, thermal performance, and appropriate application of concrete masonry units.
Explain how batching, molding, curing, testing, and quality-control procedures influence the consistency, structural performance, durability, and code compliance of manufactured CMU.
Select appropriate CMU types and properties based on structural requirements, fire-resistance ratings, moisture exposure, energy-performance…
