About the Event

WHEN: February 19, 2026 12:00-1:00 PM (1HSW)

WHERE: The Artichoke Cafe

WHO: Robert Mallory

WHAT: The Three Architectural Barriers to Speech Intelligibility

This course examines the three most common architectural barriers to achieving clear speech intelligibility and effective acoustics in everyday building spaces. While visual design is often prioritized, poor acoustic performance can negatively impact occupant health, safety, and welfare by increasing stress, reducing comprehension, and impairing communication. The presentation explores strategies for improving speech intelligibility through appropriate sound transmission control (STC), background noise mitigation, coordination with mechanical systems, and reverberation control. Participants will gain practical guidance for integrating acoustic considerations into the architectural design process to support functional, healthy, and safe environments.

28 spots available -  $35 per person (+processing fee if paid by cc)
