About the Event

Limited to 45 attendees; 1 HSW - $25 covers Lunch & 1 HSW.

As climate-related hazards continue to reshape the built environment, designers are increasingly challenged to create buildings that can withstand wildfire exposure, extreme weather, and other environmental stresses. This course explores the principles of climate-resilient design through the lens of fire science, material performance, and building assemblies. Participants will examine how heat transfer, material behavior, and enclosure design influence building performance during fire events. The course also reviews design considerations for incorporating non-combustible materials—including magnesium oxide (MgO) cement—into resilient building systems. Through real-world examples and case studies, the course highlights key design considerations and specification criteria for incorporating magnesium oxide (MgO) building materials into climate-resistant wall and envelope assemblies that support life safety, code compliance, and resilient building design.

Learning Objective 1:Explain how climate risk, evolving building codes, and material performance requirements influence the selection of building materials.
